Bulacan declared under state of calamity

CITY OF MALOLOS, Philippines -- The province of Bulacan is under a state of calamity after floods swamped villages in at least 13 of 24 towns and cities here due to continuous rains here since Wednesday, officials declared Thursday.
Reports from the provincial disaster coordinating council (PDCC) said about 9,000 residents have been displaced by floods brought about by tropical storms "Chedeng" and "Dodong."
The provincial government has readied an initial P5 million from its calamity fund to help in relief efforts.
Portions of the North Luzon Expressway and a stretch of the MacArthur Highway in Bocaue town was flooded with up to three feet of water on Wednesday night, stranding motorists, officials said.
Bulacan Governor Joselito Mendoza sought the provincial board's support to declare the province under a state of calamity during an emergency meeting of the provincial disaster coordinating council on Thursday.
Vice Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado assured the passage of the formal resolution declaring the province under a state of calamity during the board's session this Friday.
